Time to Grow Up

Get-to-know-you question: What's the weirdest thing you've ever observed (or stopped) a child from putting in their mouth?

Pray: Update your prayer requests and begin your time together in prayer.

Review: Sunday’s message focused on the difference between milk and meat in our spiritual lives. Milk represents the basic, elementary teachings of faithlike salvation by grace, God's love, and foundational truthswhile meat involves growing into maturity through righteousness, learning to live uprightly in word, deed, and thought, and discerning good from evil. The message used Hebrews to show that believers who stay on milk refuse to grow, remain immature, and miss out on deeper truth from God's word and deeper change in their lives through discipleship. Jake called us to crave spiritual truth from God’s word, but also to continue into discipleship that includes our own and that of others.

Read: Have someone read: Hebrews 5:12-14
Discuss: What stands out to you most from the passage we just read, or that stood out to

you from Jake’s sermon?

Discuss: How might these words sound if the writer were addressing our own church community today about our growth in faith?

Discuss: In what ways does the illustration of the baby tasting everything help us understand craving God's word?

Discuss: What can cause us to resist the maturing process, to stay only with “milk” and avoid moving to “solid food”?

Discuss: Describe someone who discipled you in the past, and what did that look like? Discuss: What would it look like for you to intentionally find a righteous person to

disciple you right now?

Discuss: Who is someone you could disciple intentionally, and what might be a first step in that direction?

Discuss: What is one concrete step you will take this week to crave spiritual truth from God's word and grow in maturity?

Pray: Close in prayer: asking God to help us embrace growth, maturity and discipleship
