Risky Integrity (Ruth 3)
Message Listening Guide
Guiding Question: What do you do when doing the right thing feels like it could be misunderstood?
Ruth 3:1–6 — Naomi’s Plan Naomi awakens from despair and shifts from focusing on her own loss to seeking a future of rest and security for Ruth. She instructs Ruth to wash, anoint herself, and put on her best clothes—signaling the end of mourning and her readiness for new possibilities. The plan she proposes is bold and risky, but Ruth responds with trust and obedient action.
Ruth 3:7–13 — The Threshing Floor Ruth’s request for Boaz to “spread your garment over me” is a symbolic appeal for marriage and protection. The vulnerable nighttime setting heightens the tension: a foreign widow proposing to a respected Israelite man, alone in the dark. Yet Boaz chooses integrity over advantage, praising Ruth for her loyal love toward Naomi and her refusal to seek a husband outside the family line.
Ruth 3:14–18 — The Wait Boaz protects Ruth’s reputation by sending her away before dawn, ensuring no suspicion falls on her though nothing improper occurred. He gives Ruth six measures of barley for Naomi—a sign that their long season of emptiness is nearing its end. Redemption has been promised, but it must still be patiently awaited.
The Point: Your act of selfless care may be God’s answer to someone’s desperate prayer.
Application:
Notice: Look out for someone burdened or overlooked, and ask, “If I were living their life today, what would I be praying for?”
Pray: Intercede for that exact need—pray their prayer as if it were your own.
Respond: Ask God if He wants to use you as part of His answer, and take one concrete step of selfless care if He prompts you.

Announcement: Our groups will take a break from meeting on Sunday, Dec 21st and 28th. We look forward to jumping back the first Sunday in January!
Opening Question: If your life were made into a movie, what would be the most dramatic or suspenseful scene—and why?
Review: Sunday’s message focused on the bold and risky decisions made by Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz in Ruth 3. Naomi moved from despair to hope, forming a daring plan to secure Ruth’s future. Ruth responded with courageous trust, and Boaz showed integrity and restraint in a vulnerable situation that could have easily been misunderstood. The story reminds us that our selfless actions may be God’s way of answering someone else’s desperate prayer.
Discuss: Have you ever tried to do the right thing, but knew it could easily be misunderstood? How did you handle that?
Discuss: Which character do you relate to most right now—Naomi rediscovering purpose, Ruth stepping out in risky obedience, or Boaz choosing integrity in a tough moment? What makes you say that?
Discuss: Can you think of a time when someone else’s kindness, faithfulness, or courage felt like a direct answer to a prayer you were praying? What impact did that have on you?
Apply: We were encouraged to pray from someone else’s perspective—to step into their shoes and intercede on their behalf. How did that experience go for you? Did God prompt you to take any action as a result?
Pray: Spend time praying that God would shape each of you into people marked by courage, compassion, and integrity. Ask Him to help you recognize opportunities to be the answer to someone’s prayer this week.
