Message Listening Guide

Guiding Question: What does it mean that God is present with us in both hardship and joy?

Ruth 4:13–17 — God Restores What Was Lost
Boaz marries Ruth, and the Lord enables her to conceive, bringing new life where there had been loss. The women of Bethlehem praise God, recognizing that Naomi has not been abandoned but renewed through a guardian-redeemer. What began with famine, grief, and emptiness now ends with joy, restoration, and a future—culminating in the birth of Obed, the grandfather of King David.

James 1:16–18 — God’s Gifts Reveal His Character
James reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from a God who does not change. God’s faithfulness in the past reveals His dependable character in the present and future. Just as God brought life and redemption to Naomi’s story, He continues to bring life to His people through His Word and promises.

Song: My God Is Still the Same

Reflection Question: What do God’s past actions teach us about what we can trust Him to do in the future?

The Point: God is immanent—He is near to us in both hard times and good times.

Application

This Christmas, reflect on how God remained faithful to Israel and fulfilled His promises through the coming of the Messiah. Let that faithfulness shape your hope as you await Christ’s return.

Have an honest conversation with God. Because He is near, bring Him your needs, worries, frustrations, and praises—trusting that He is at work even when you cannot yet see it.
