Message Listening Guide

Guiding Question: About half of American teens regularly use an AI companion, and a third say those conversations are as satisfying as talking with real friends. And it isn't just teens. In a day when friendship fits on a screen, is flesh and blood community still worth the price?

Flesh and Blood Faith (2 John 7, 12)

John is writing to a church being targeted by docetic teachers: people claiming Jesus wasn't really human. John is adamant, because if Jesus wasn't flesh and blood, He couldn't save our flesh and blood. And notice where that conviction leads him: a flesh and blood Savior means flesh and blood community. John refuses to let his relationships live on paper and ink (v. 12).

High Maintenance Church (Hebrews 10:19-25)

The author of Hebrews closes with three challenges, culminating in the call to spur one another on (paroxysm in the Greek). The friction of person-on-person community is a feature God wants us to lean into, not a flaw to lean away from. This is just one of around sixty "one anothers" in the New Testament.

The Point: You can't one another if you're not around one another.

Application: Join a connection group at Creekside, and prioritize it. Our groups are where we grow Christian friendship, pray for one another, and challenge one another.

Closing Thought: John was an old man, and first-century travel meant walking miles of slow, dangerous roads. When he put down the pen because he wanted to see their faces, he was choosing inconvenience on purpose. The price was high. The price was worth it.
