And He Shall be Called...The Light of the World
Message Listening Guide
The Problem: Spiritual Blindness (Isaiah 59:7-10)
Isaiah describes a people eager to pursue sin: they rush into wrongdoing, even shedding innocent blood without shame (v.7).
Their rebellion has hardened their hearts and shaped their lives, turning them into people who scheme and dwell on evil (v.8).
Living in sin has left them spiritually blind. Their eyes have adjusted to the darkness to the point of losing the ability to see (v.9-10).
The Answer: Jesus, the Light of the World (John 1:1-5)
In Greek culture, the Logos was the principle of order and reason behind all things (v.1-3).
The light that is Christ penetrates the deepest darkness caused by sin; Darkness can neither understands nor overpower it (v.5).
Jesus’s light doesn’t just expose the truth—it brings healing. Through Him, the spiritually blind are given eyes to see (v.4-5).
The Point: Sin doesn’t just destroy—it blinds; Jesus doesn’t just forgive—He restores.
Application:
Turn to the Light for Healing: Let Him expose areas of darkness and heal your spiritual blindness.
Shine His Light to Others: Jesus calls us to reflect His light in a dark world. “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
Advent Perspective: He Shall Be Called… (Revelation 21:22-27)
One day, the light of Jesus will fill all things—no more darkness, sin, or pain. The glory of God will shine, and Jesus Himself will be our everlasting light (v.23-25).
Right now, we experience glimpses of His light, but one day all people will see Him fully (v. 24).
